Meet The Faculty of the 2-Week MITI

The Institute faculty is comprised of highly experienced interpretation specialists, all of whom are federally certified interpreters. The Institute owes much of its success to its extraordinary faculty.

Dr. Roseann Dueñas González, Ph.D. Linguistics, AHI Director

Dr. González is a leading proponent of language rights for limited- and non-English speakers. She holds her Ph.D. in linguistics, is a Professor of English at the University of Arizona, and is Director of the National Center for Interpretation.


Jaime Fátas, Lead Faculty, FCCI

Mr. Fatás is an ATA accredited translator, and the Assistant Professor of Practice in Translation and Interpretation at the University of Arizona. He has been involved as a medical interpreter and as a medical interpreter educator for more than 10 years.


Irene Radillo Díaz, Lead Faculty, FCCI, CHI

Irene Radillo is a licensed OTR. She has extensive experience as a medical and legal interpreter as well as a medical interpreter trainer. She also has extensive experience as a medical translator for both hospitals and private agencies.


Anthony Rivas, Faculty, FCCI

Mr. Rivas is Federally Certified Court Interpreter, California Court Certified Interpreter, ATA Accredited Translator, and conference interpreter. He has extensive experience as an interpreter trainer, curriculum developer, and interpreter/translator in medical and legal settings.


Cynthia Roat, Visiting Faculty, MPH

Cynthia Roat is a nationally known consultant on issues related to language access in health care. She holds Washington State certification as a medical and social service Spanish-English interpreter. Ms. Roat is a founding member of the National Council on Interpreting in Health Care (NCIHC).


Estela McDonough, Visiting Faculty

Estela McDonough is the coordinator of education and training, interpreter services department at UMASS Memorial Center and instructor of medical interpretation at Boston University. She has been involved as a medical interpreter and medical interpreter educator for more than 15 years.


Eduardo Berinstein, Visiting Faculty, FCCI

Mr. Berinstein is the Director of Interpreting Services at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. He is accredited by the American Translators Association (ATA) in English and Spanish. He has served as Chairperson of the Massachusetts Medical Interpreter Association’s Education Committee and has more than 17 years of experience as a medical, court, and conference interpreter and translator. He has extensive work experience in curriculum development and multilingual interpreter services and training in healthcare.
