Interpretapes

The following eight sound clips are actual excerpts from the Interpretapes. You will notice that there are two types of tracks for each exercise: the exercise itself and a sample rendition of that exercise.

The first two exercises are for practicing the consecutive mode of interpretation. The first track includes a verbal interaction between two people with pauses in between parts of speech to allow time for interpretation. The track immediately following each exercise is a rendition of the previous exercise with an acceptable interpretation included. It is important to note that while the interpreted renditions are considered acceptable versions, they are not exhaustive, meaning there may be more than one way to correctly interpret the scenario.

The second set of exercises is useful for practicing the simultaneous mode of interpretation. In each sample exercise, there is a spoken interaction of either one or two people. There are no pauses in between, requiring you to interpret simultaneously as you listen to the exercise. In the sample renditions the interpreter is speaking simultaneously, so you will hear both the speaker and the interpreter speak at the same time. Again, each rendition is an acceptable interpretation of the exercise, so there may be more than one way to correctly interpret the scenario.
