The CITI is an intensive professional development program for you, the Spanish/English legal interpreter, developed by the National Center for Interpretation (NCI). Interpretation is both an art and a science, requiring very specialized training. Our federally certified and highly experienced instructors, combined with our extensive curriculum, offer you a level of quality not easily matched. The CITI is committed to providing you with individual attention.
In 2022, the CITI will be offered as a fully online program, combining asynchronous and synchronous instruction to maximize its impact. It will begin with a series of webinars in June followed by two weeks of intensive, online instruction from July 4-15. The 2022 CITI will provide 120 total hours of specialized interpreter training.

What to expect from the CITI Program
Your time with CITI is set around maximizing real life practice, time-on-task scenarios to increase the benefit gained from practice sessions and critiques with faculty members. Comprehensive diagnostic testing is performed at the start and end of each institute, giving you a detailed analysis of how your language and interpreting skills have improved during the institute.
120 hours of instruction including:
- Terminology building
- Simultaneous interpreting
- Consecutive interpreting
- Sight translation
- Ethics and protocol
The CITI program prepares you for the interpreter workforce and also is the ideal way to prepare you for both the oral and written portions of the State or Federal Court Interpreter Certification Examination (FCICE).
Working closely with the CITI's federally certified and expert instructors through small group work in a language lab style environment will help you as you practice all three interpreting modes.

To ensure that you possess a sufficient level of bilingualism and interpreting/translating experience for you to benefit fully from the CITI, you will need to provide a Letter of Interest, Resume, and Letter of Recommendation.
Our online application is fast and secure, accepting payment only by credit card, debit card, or pre-paid cards. Checks or cash are not accepted.
What to expect once you apply:
- Once you have submitted your eligibility documents, NCI will verify your eligibility for the CITI.
- Upon receipt of your acceptance letter, you will have 30 days to pay a non-refundable deposit of $295 towards your tuition to reserve your seat.
- Your remaining tuition balance is due by May 26, 2022
- Application Fee: $50
- CITI Tuition: $2595 (including $295 deposit)
CITI welcomes all levels of professionals into our workshops and seminars. We encourage international applicants! Because the CITI is online, there is no need to make travel or visa arrangments!
