Court Interpreter Ethics in Remote Settings (Language Neutral)

When
10am to 1pm PDT, Apr. 22, 2023

The face of court interpreting is changing.  In a world in which a global pandemic has caused most industries to drastically alter the way they do business to adapt to safety protocols and social-distancing requirements, interpreters now find themselves tasked with providing high-level services in a multitude of virtual settings using a diverse array of remote technology.  Although the judicial interpreter’s professional responsibilities have not changed, the dynamic nature of the virtual environments within which interpreters now work often times presents previously uncontemplated ethical challenges that must be understood and, ultimately, overcome to safeguard the integrity of the judicial process.  The main focus of this 3-hour webinar is to provide interpreters with pragmatic guidance, knowledge, and skills to assist them in making sound ethical decisions while plying their trade in a variety of unpredictable remote settings.  During this live session, participants will not only collaborate with the instructor to analyze the judicial interpreter’s ethical responsibilities in virtual settings, but will also apply what they learn by taking part in roleplays and hands-on exercises.
